How to play
- Slide the tiles up, down, left or right. Every tile moves as far as it can in that direction.
- Join equal numbers. When two tiles with the same number touch, they join into one tile worth both: 2 + 2 makes 4, 4 + 4 makes 8, and so on.
- A new tile appears after every move: a 2 most of the time, sometimes a 4.
- Reach 2048. You can keep playing after that. The game ends when the board is full and no tiles can join.
How scoring works
Every time two tiles join, you score the value of the new tile. Each tile can only join once per move.
| Row before sliding left | Row after | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 2 · 2 · 2 · 2 | 4 · 4 · _ · _ | 8 (4 + 4) |
| 2 · 2 · 4 · _ | 4 · 4 · _ · _ | 4 (the new 4 doesn't join again in the same move) |
| 4 · _ · 4 · 8 | 8 · 8 · _ · _ | 8 |
Tips for a higher score
- Keep your biggest tile in a corner. Many players pick one corner and build towards it.
- Mostly use two or three directions. For a bottom-left corner, use left and down most of the time, and right when you must. Avoid the move that pulls the big tile out of its corner.
- Keep a row full. A full bottom row can't shift sideways, so your big tiles stay put.
- Think one move ahead about where the new tile might appear.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as 2048?
It follows the same simple rules as the well-known 2048 puzzle by Gabriele Cirulli: slide, join equal numbers, reach 2048. We wrote our own version from scratch, and it is not connected with the original game or its publisher.
Can I undo a move?
Yes, you can undo your last move once. After that, play another move to undo again.
Is my best score saved?
Only while the page is open. We don't use cookies or browser storage, so it is forgotten when you close or reload the page.
Why doesn't the page scroll when I swipe on the board?
Swipes on the board move the tiles instead of the page. Swipe outside the board to scroll.
