How to play
- Pick a theme and difficulty, then look for the words in the list below the grid.
- Mark a word by tapping its first letter and then its last letter. On a computer you can also drag across it.
- Found words turn green in the grid and are crossed off the list.
- Find them all to finish the puzzle. Press New puzzle for a fresh grid.
Easy and hard puzzles
| Difficulty | Grid | Words | Directions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 10 × 10 | 8 | Left to right, top to bottom, and diagonally forwards |
| Hard | 12 × 12 | 12 | All 8 directions, including backwards and upwards |
Every puzzle is made fresh in your browser. Words are chosen at random from the theme's list, placed in the grid (sometimes crossing where they share a letter), and the gaps are filled with random letters. The rare letters Q, X and Z are never used as filler, so if you see one, it's part of a word.
Tips for finding words faster
- Look for unusual letters first, like K, W or Y. They stand out more than common letters such as E or A.
- Scan for double letters, such as the TT in KETTLE or the EE in BREEZE.
- Go row by row looking for just the first letter of one word, then check the letters around each match.
- On hard puzzles, read backwards too. A word can end where you'd expect it to start.
Frequently asked questions
Will I get the same puzzle twice?
Very unlikely. Each theme has 16 words, and every new puzzle picks a random set of them and places them in new spots, so the grid looks different every time.
Can a word be inside another word?
Each word in the list is placed once. Letters can be shared where two words cross, but you only need to mark each listed word once.
Is my progress saved?
No. We don't use cookies or browser storage, so the puzzle is gone if you close or reload the page.
Can I play with a keyboard?
Yes. Tab to the grid, move with the arrow keys, press Enter on the first letter of a word and then Enter on its last letter.
