How to convert a picture
- Choose one or more pictures, or drag them onto the box. You can mix types.
- Pick JPG, PNG or WebP. For JPG and WebP you can also set the quality.
- Press "Convert" and download your picture, or all of them in one ZIP file.
Common conversions
| From → to | Why people do it | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| WebP → JPG | A picture saved from a website won't open in an older app, or a form won't accept it | Any see-through areas are filled with the colour you choose (white unless you change it) |
| PNG → JPG | A smaller file for a photo or a screenshot of a photo | Sharp text and lines can get slightly fuzzy edges |
| JPG → PNG | An app or print shop asks for PNG | The file gets bigger, and the picture doesn't get any sharper |
| PNG or JPG → WebP | Faster-loading pictures on a website | WebP keeps see-through areas; some older apps can't open it |
How it works
Your browser opens the picture, draws it onto a blank canvas the same size, and saves the canvas in the new type. The size in pixels doesn't change. JPG and WebP save space by leaving out fine detail (the quality setting decides how much); PNG keeps every pixel exactly. Converting can't add detail that was lost before, so a blurry JPG stays blurry as a PNG.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert iPhone HEIC photos?
Only if your browser can open HEIC files. Safari on an iPhone, iPad or Mac usually can; most other browsers can't. On the iPhone you can also choose Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible, so new photos are saved as JPG.
Can I convert to GIF, HEIC or ICO?
No. Browsers can only save JPG, PNG and (in most browsers) WebP, and this tool works entirely in your browser.
Does an animated GIF stay animated?
No. Only the first frame is converted, because JPG and PNG can't hold animation.
What happens to the photo's hidden details?
The new file is drawn fresh, so hidden details (EXIF data) such as the camera model, date and GPS location aren't copied over. The picture is turned the right way up first.
Are my pictures uploaded?
No. Everything happens on your own device, and we never see your pictures.
