How to use it
- Random numbers: type the smallest and largest number, and how many you want. Untick "No repeats" if the same number may come up twice, like rolling a die several times.
- Pick from a list: paste names, prizes or tasks, one per line, and choose how many to pick. Nobody is picked twice.
- Press Generate. Press it again for a new result.
How it works, and is it fair?
Numbers come from your browser's secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), which is designed to be unpredictable. We make sure every number in your range is exactly as likely as any other: a common shortcut (taking the remainder of a big random number) slightly favours small numbers, so we throw away the few values that would cause that.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use it for a giveaway or prize draw?
Yes, it picks fairly. To show people the draw was fair, share your screen or record it while you press Generate, and note the time shown under the result. Prize draws and competitions can have legal rules where you are, so check them if money or big prizes are involved.
Can I get the same result again?
No. Results aren't saved and can't be repeated, which is what makes them fair. Copy the result if you need to keep it.
Can I make negative numbers?
Yes. Type a negative number in "From", for example from −10 to 10.
