How to play
- Press Start. The snake starts moving to the right.
- Steer with the arrow keys (or W A S D), by swiping on the board, or with the arrow buttons under it.
- Eat the food. Each piece scores 1 point and makes the snake one square longer.
- Don't crash into the walls or the snake's own body. Press Space or the Pause button to take a break.
The board and speeds
The board is 15 × 15 squares (225 in all), and the snake starts 3 squares long.
| Speed | Time per step | Steps per second |
|---|---|---|
| Slow | 0.20 seconds | 5 |
| Normal | 0.14 seconds | about 7 |
| Fast | 0.09 seconds | about 11 |
Worked example
The snake starts 3 squares long. After eating 10 pieces of food it is 3 + 10 = 13 squares long, and the score shows 10.
Tips for a longer snake
- Stay near the edges early on and leave the middle open.
- Move in wide loops as the snake grows, so your tail clears the way ahead.
- Turning back on yourself is blocked, so a quick wrong key press won't end the game.
- Start on Slow on a phone until swiping feels natural.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't the page scroll when I swipe on the board?
Swipes on the board steer the snake instead of moving the page. Swipe outside the board to scroll.
Can I go through the walls?
No. In this version, hitting a wall ends the game.
