How to sign a PDF

  1. Choose your PDF, or drag it onto the box.
  2. Draw your signature with your mouse, a pen or your finger, or type your name.
  3. Tap the page where it should go. It opens on the last page, where signatures usually go; change the page number to sign somewhere else. Adjust the size, and add today's date if you need it.
  4. Press "Sign and save PDF" and download the signed copy.

How it works

Your signature is cropped to just the ink, saved as a see-through picture, and added to the page at the spot you chose. The picture keeps its shape: the size setting is its width as a share of the page, and its height follows. Everything else on the page is left exactly as it was.

Example

A signature three times as wide as it is tall, set to 30% of a US Letter page (612 × 792 points), centred 72% of the way across and 85% of the way down:

Width = 30% × 612 = 183.6 points Height = 183.6 ÷ 3 = 61.2 points Left edge = 72% × 612 − 183.6 ÷ 2 = 348.84 points from the left Bottom edge = 792 − (85% × 792 + 61.2 ÷ 2) = 88.2 points from the bottom

Is it legally binding?

This tool adds a picture of your signature to the PDF, which is what many people mean by "signing a PDF". Whether that's accepted depends on the document and on who you're sending it to: many everyday forms and letters accept it, but some documents need a wet-ink signature, a witness, or a certified digital signature. If you're not sure, ask the person or organisation who sent it. This isn't legal advice.

Frequently asked questions

Is my signature stored anywhere?

No. It's drawn and added to the PDF by your own browser. It's never sent to us, and nothing is kept after you close the page.

Can I sign on more than one page?

Sign one page, download the PDF, then open the signed copy and sign the next page.

The PDF already has a digital signature. Can I add mine?

Any change to a PDF, including this one, breaks existing certified digital signatures. If a document has been digitally signed by someone else, check with them before changing it.

Can someone copy my signature from the PDF?

Anyone who has the PDF can see your signature, just like on paper. Only send signed documents to people you trust, and consider adding the date so it's clear when you signed.
